✪ Boiler! Lets get down to buisness! ✪ [Text]

The weather doesn't seem to be letting up any, as you all know.

So, with that in mind, I need assistance with getting the Hospital's boiler up and running. Considering the state of the city, I'm going to need someone who knows how a boiler works and is able to repair one. The boiler has to be somewhere in the basement of the hospital, where the monsters take residence. So, I'll aid in escorting whoever to the boiler so we may get it working.

Even if you know nothing about boilers, I ask everyone who has a blanket to spare or finds a blanket they do not need, to please donate it to the hospital. Anyone who can sew, it would be delightful if you could lend your skills to creating blankets as well.

[Seeing alpha brought a smile to his face, even it it was just a small one.]

Yes please. Anything to warm up a little.

[He walked into the small kitchen area to join her. Avoiding his topic of discussion for a moment or two longer]

How was the Cafe today? I'm sorry I didn't get to visit. It's been really busy lately... [Considering he shows up almost every day, whether he gets something or not...]

Coming right up! It seems like it just keeps getting colder out there, doesn't it? [She cheerfully bustles around, finding a glass and pouring him some tea. It feels so normal, and her smile becomes a bit warmer, more genuine.]

Oh that...same as usual I suppose. It's not super busy, but there seems to be a lot more customers than I ever got back home! [She sets the cup on the table in front of him and returned to her seat.] Ahh, that's okay. After all, your job is a lot more important than visiting me!

[Cube nods. He hasn't flown in a while just because the air is so cold. Taking the cup, he let the cup and steam warm his hands and nose.]

No more important than Oneechan, though. Oneechan makes the best tea and coffee! I been trying to being Miss Reisen to the Cafe, but shes a bit shy I think. Oh, she said she'd teach me how to use the pistol that-

[Cube's excited expression halted on his next words and his should seemed to sink. It was Saburo's gun. The reason he wanted to talk to Alpha tonight was in regards to Saburo.]

I guess I should start telling Oneechan what I wanted to speak with her about, hm? [He took a slow sip of the hot tea]

[Alpha took a drink of her tea and just listened to him chatter...until he stopped suddenly. She had a few ideas what this might be about, but still...]

Haaa, don't look like that! Now I'm really worried. [Despite her words, she offered him an encouraging smile over the top of her mug.] Just go ahead and tell me. It doesn't matter what it is.

[He gave her a small smile and nodded]

I... it's about Saburo-san. I... I don't know what happened... and it may be none of my business but... [Cube looked into his cup] ... It's been worrying me for a while. it's clear Saburo-san has been avoiding the apartment and... I know pieces from what he has said... but Saburo-san is Saburo-san.

I wish to know from Alpha-chan... I...

[The demon's lips gave a small sigh into his cup, causing the visible steam to detor away from the tea for a moment]

I want to know if we're still a family...

[As soon as the name comes out of his mouth, Alpha looks away, staring intently into her cup. Honestly, she knew this was why he wanted to talk. She was surprised he hadn't asked about it before. But that didn't make the subject any more pleasant. For a minute she didn't answer, taking another sip of tea and gazing around the room. This was something that meant a lot to Cube, she knew, and she hated to see that it was upsetting him. But she didn't know if she could explain it properly - she didn't even understand all of it herself. Finally she sighed and looked back at him with an apologetic little smile.]

When Cube went home, do you think we stopped being family until you came back? And while we're here, does that mean the people in our worlds stop meaning anything? [She shook her head slightly.] It doesn't work that way, does it? No matter where we go or what happens, those feelings stay the same.

[She stared down at the table and stumbled, just a bit, over the next few words. But she didn't stop smiling.] I'm not sure...if me and Saburo are friends anymore. That's up to him. But, if you ask me if we're still a family...that's not something you can just turn off, you know? It doesn't have anything to do with getting along...it's something that we just are. As long as two people are still connected, I think...they'll always be family.

[He did not look upon her at first. Cube's gaze stayed upon his cup and his fingers around it. Looking up, he saw her smile but it wasn't until he heard her speak, her description of family that he gave a smile.]

I... I know family don't always get along. It'd be weird if something like that happened... but... It hurts.

[The next part, he looked away, almost ashamed to ask but he had to. he needed to know. He knew the answer, but he had to hear her say it and her reasoning. Even if he didn't agree with it.

The demon's grip upon his tea tightened as he spoke]

I.... I guess... I also wish to know if.... if Oneechan...

Did Oneechan prevent Saburo-san from fulfilling his purpose?

[There's no hesitance in her answer this time. Cube isn't the only one who's thought a lot about this.]

I tried to stop him from hurting someone I cared about very much. If that's...what you mean, then yes, I did.

[When Cube's gaze turned back to her, there was a small smile.]

Oneechan was protecting Jiro-san because Saburo-san has to kill him. Oneechan knew the whole time...

[The smile faded very quickly. He spoke but more so to his cup then to Alpha]

Still... I wish there was a way he could fulfill it without hurting Jiro-san. If Saburo-san could do it, Jiro-san could come back and Saburo-san could find a new purpose...

But I guess things just couldn't be that simple, could they?

[A tiny nod.] I already knew from the time I met Jiro. It was the first thing he told me. He wanted me to stay away from Saburo because he thought he would hurt me...when I just thought we were friends. All this time, I just wanted to protect my brothers. It wasn't any of my business, but was it really wrong?

[She sighed and closed her eyes.]

Kill someone without hurting them...? It just doesn't work that way. Even so, I meant what I said...I'm not mad at him. I never really was. But Jiro...is already gone. And I still can't say that anything has changed. If it was now, could I really have stayed out of it from the beginning...?

You're not wrong, Oneechan.

[He took a sip of tea before speaking]

I know Oneechan isn't mad at Saburo-san. Nor am I. I do know that it's wrong to stop someone from their purpose, though... but... it's hard... because.... his purpose is to kill someone in particular...

W-Wait. Jiro-san... is gone? I... I hadn't realize he left.

... [Cube's face became cold and he huffed]

Then... Then Saburo-san has no reason to stay away! [He seemed almost upset about this, but not at Alpha. Clearly at Saburo]

[She shook her head, not looking up at him.] He left before, and came back. Even if he's gone for now, that doesn't mean everything has changed. I'm sure that's what Saburo's thinking.

I don't think...it was ever just about Jiro, anyway.

O-oh... I bet you're right too, Oneechan...

... [He looks to her, trying to understand]

What does Oneechan mean?

[She didn't answer right away, too wrapped up in her own thoughts. She was thinking about herself...about her construction. She didn't know much about how she was built. She didn't know why she was the way she was, or how she felt the things she did.

As little as she knew about herself, she knew even less about robots from other worlds. She really didn't know much of anything. She didn't know how a heart worked.]

...I don't know. It's just a feeling.

[Cube takes a deep breath, and releases a big Sigh along with a smile]

At least now I know it's just Shades-san and not Oneechan too. I had a feeling. He's stubborn like that. It's just strange without him around...

[He takes a sip of tea]

Hmmm. Good~
